What is hard ferrite magnet?
Permanent ferrite magnet (also known as ceramic magnet) is part of the Permanent Magnet family, and the lowest cost, hard magnets available today.
Ceramic Ferrite Magnet is used for many consumer & commercial applications such as craft projects, refrigerator magnets, badge holders, latches, display boards, motors, lifting magnets, science projects, toys, games, POP displays, advertising giveaways & much more.
We can also custom manufacture ceramic magnets to fit your exact specifications.
How to make Ferrite Permanent Magnets?
The raw materials are mixed together, granulated and thermally treated to get finally hexaferrite phase (SrFe12O19 or BaFe12O19). This granulate is then ground to a powder.Pressing can be performed under magnetic field (to maximize anisotropy of the magnet) or not ( isotropic ferrite magnets ) and can be wet or dry.
Features & Benefits
Ferrite permanent magnets are a dark charcoal gray in color and do not appear metallic.
Some Disc Ferrite Magnet can be magnetized with several poles on one face to give greater holding strength on that surface. (This gives a lower holding force on the opposite surface.)
Ferrite magnet is not suited for high-temperature applications (over 250° C)
Are surface treatments required for ferrite magnet(Ceramic Magnet)?
Ferrite permanent magnets do not need to be protected for surface rust. A thin film of magnet powder on the surface is common.
What grades & shapes are available for permanent magnets?
Grades 5 (most commonly used) through 8 are available in disc, block (rectangle & square) and ring shapes, and can be custom manufactured to meet your specialty requirements.
Precautions for use
1. Consider the decrease of intrinsic coercivity at low temperature to avoid demagnetization.
2. A ferrite magnet is especially hard and fragile. When it is exposed to vibration or impacts, design the structure properly.
3. When thermal shock is applied to a magnet, magnet breakage may occur. Never expose a magnet to thermal shock such as a rapid heating or cooling speed.
4. If magnets rub against each other during transportation, magnet powder may be seen on the surface.
