This Block Ferrite Magnet has a large magnetic surface area that is useful in metal detection and removal operations. Due to their wide magnetic field, they are also used in a repelling function for manufacturing processes that need to keep components separated on the production line, or to act as a buffer to prevent collision damage to fragile items with metal content.
First development of ferrite magnet started in the 40’s, but they have been offering in the market since the 50’s.Ferrite Permanent Magnets are obtained from iron oxides and from strontium or barium carbonate: these raw materials are generous on Earth, so availability of ferrite is rather high.
Permanent Ferrite Magnet offers value for money and permanent magnetic power that resists corrosive forces and can operate at temperatures up to 250ºC.
Ferrite material is brittle by nature and easily broken so a covering, barrier or casing is usually required to protect the magnet from damage.
Ferrite permanent magnets are an alternative to expensive rare earth permanent magnets (neodymium, samarium cobalt) when the environment is wet, oxidizing or when temperatures are high. Hard and brittle at the same time, such as ceramics, ferrite permanent magnets have a number of advantages, such as corrosion resistance (ferrite magnet do not need a protective layer, unlike Neodymium Magnet), demagnetization resistance, can operate at high temperatures, dielectric properties and low price. The only disadvantage is fragility: they cannot be subjected to strong mechanical stress because they break.
Examples of uses: magnetic separators, wind turbines, industrial furnaces, communication equipment, engines, electronics, speakers, mobile accessories, fridge magnets, experiments, etc.
